The strap line is located above the masthead reading- The offspring | Weezer | Plain White T's. This provides an insight on the big features within the magazine, a sort of summarized contents page in a form of a rule of three.

The cover addresses the audience directly through "Plain White T's answer your Q's". The use of slang shows informality and can connect with the younger audience.

Posters advertised on the inside, advertises content within the magazine, so the reader not only wants to buy the magazine, but also knows what he or she is buying.

On top of the free posters, a free CD is also included. Neither KERRANG or MOJO offer both of these, which makes it seem like it has more to offer than other competitors.

The bar code is common within all products and magazines. The Rock Sound bar code provides information on issue number, pricing and refers to the brands website URL at www.rocksound.tv, advertising it's social media presents and brand identity.

Rock Sound follows a similar layout to its other competitors. It includes a main image of the front man of the band who provides an insight to the audience of the main headline of the magazine, being the 'Alkaline Trio' making the article inside easily recognisable to the reader at first glance from the cover.

A medium shot is used showing the front man leaning forward staring at the reader giving a direct mode of address, with an expression of madness. This not only represents the personality of the band, but makes the band interesting and maybe persuade the audience to further read into the feature.

Like KERRANG, Rock Sound centers it's title of the magazine 'ROCKSOUND' behind the main image at the top of the cover. The font of the masthead is in the style of a rock and roll font with the burnt crisp edges referencing to the genre of the magazine in white. The use of white matches the colour scheme of the house style being red, yellow and white. The font is san-serif.

Under the main headline, Rock Sound advertises it's cover line 'The Subways breaking hearts', represented by it's own small cropped image to attract the audience's attention to other features of the magazine.

Cover Analysis

A summary of the contents page continues at the bottom left of the cover to yet again advertise smaller articles in the magazine.

The magazine achieves a house style by sharing a colour scheme of red, black and white. These are the colours the front man of the Alkaline Trio is wearing in the main image of the cover.

The price of the magazine is £3.60 which is around the same price as a monthly magazine such as MOJO which costs £3.95, where as monthly magazines such as KERRANG costs only £2.20.

The price range is higher due to the fact that there is just under double the amount of pages KERRANG's 64 page magazine has in the ROCK SOUND magazine.

Rock Sound's first issue was published in 1999 and has a circulation of 13,924 monthly. It is a British rock magazine which aims at being an underground style magazine.
